A Clinical and Sport Psychologist talking with a rider on horseback in the Bay Area California

Sport Psychology for Equestrians

All athletes have moments when they lose confidence, feel fear, or suffer from performance anxiety. Sport Psychology services have a specific focus on helping you enhance your performance in the saddle through working on the mental side of the game, also known as mental skills training. I help equestrians discover more confidence, challenge perfectionism, develop a growth mindset and reconnect with why they ride in the first place.

I offer both individual sessions and support as well as clinics and presentations.

I enjoy working with equestrians of various ages, from teens and adults, and in a variety of disciplines. Hunters, Jumpers, Eventers, Dressage riders, Natural Horsemanship trainers and many more. I have over two decades of experience as an equestrian, competing, riding, training and teaching mainly in the Hunter/Jumper discipline. My extensive equestrian knowledge and competition background helps to inform how I approach working with you. Combined with my clinical experience and expertise I use a client-centered, goal oriented and evidenced based approach to help you work toward your goals and uncover the path to your peak performance. I incorporate multiple modalities and interventions to find what works best for you, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, somatic based practice, and self-compassion.

Still curious about how it would improve your performance in the saddle?

Here are some examples:

  • values based goal setting and how to work toward your goals with a growth mindset (i.e. leveling up in dressage or becoming a confident jumper)

  • how to manage fear and anxiety at home or shows

  • managing set backs

  • getting back to riding after a fall

  • self-compassion

  • confidence/self-confidence

  • quieting your inner critic

  • challenging and changing the impact of perfectionism

  • creating a pre-show routine to help you get into the “zone” or your flow state

  • navigating a career change/leaving the sport

Are you a trainer, rider, board member or local chapter member who would like to schedule a group clinic hosted at your very own barn? Let’s collaborate!

Getting Started

We will begin with an initial 15 minute phone conversation free of charge. During the call we will discuss more about what you are looking for as well as have time for me to answer any questions that you have.

Fees and Insurance

Please contact me for my current fee. My fees are comparable to other Sport Psychologists in the area.

I am not currently “in-network” with any insurance company so payment is all “out-of-pocket” or private pay. You can contact your insurance company and inquire about what their reimbursement plan is for “out-of-network” mental health providers. If they do have a reimbursement plan, this would look like you paying the session fee to me and then submitting a statement or super bill, which I will provide to you, to your insurance company and getting a percentage of the session fee reimbursed back to you. Please ask your insurance company for all the details about their “out-of-network” provider plan so you can be fully informed.
