What is Psychotherapy with Horses (aka Equine Therapy or Equine Assisted Therapy)?

Psychotherapy with horses (aka Equine Therapy or Equine Assisted Therapy) involves a certified treatment team including a licensed Mental Health Professional, an Equine Specialist and horses. The approach is collaborative, client-centered, and strength based, which means we want your voice to be heard. This model uses therapeutic metaphor and story telling where the horses and experience can become symbolic representations of other relationships in your life. All activities with the horses are ground based which helps provide a safe space for you and the horses to explore and get to know each other (no horse experience needed). Psychotherapy with horses provides an experiential model of therapy where you participate in different activities with horses, helping individuals and groups experience healing and growth blending equine connection and therapy to reduce anxiety, build confidence and foster self-awareness.

Who is it for?

I currently have limited openings for individuals (children, adolescents and adults), couples and families in the Bay Area, California who are interested in adjunct support (ie folx who are already in therapy and want to experience this powerful modality). No horse experience is required to benefit from these sessions!

**Therapists are welcome and encouraged to reach out to me via email if interested in referring clients

Where are sessions it located?

Currently sessions are being held at a private barn location in Petaluma, CA.

How often do I come out?

This depends on your goals, needs and schedule! We will collaborate with you to figure this out. We have found that once a month sessions seem to provide a nice cadence and addition to a more regular therapy schedule.
